Tim Cumagun is the owner and founder of Greenway Racing. He fell in love with horse racing at Golden Gate Fields, hooked from the first race he watched. That spark led him to the backstretch, where he began watching morning workouts and learning the game firsthand at Andy Mathis’ barn.
When Golden Gate Fields closed, Tim launched Greenway Racing to carry on the spirit of Northern California horsemen and to prove they could compete—and win—on bigger stages. The green-and-gold silks with white sleeves honor the legacy of the Oakland A’s and other Bay Area teams that once proudly represented the region.
On his wedding day, Tim claimed his first horse, Clouseau, a dark bay gelding by Distorted Humor out of a Bernardini mare. In partnership with Bill Branch, Richard Catone, John Lovett, and trainer Andy Mathis, Clouseau won three in a row, including back-to-back victories at Pleasanton and a strong score at Santa Anita.
Since then, Tim has grown the stable thoughtfully, continuing to partner with Bill Branch and expanding with respected groups like Little Red Feather Racing. Tim approaches the sport with a deep respect for the horses, a commitment to partnerships built on trust, and a belief that strategic placement and patient development win in the long run.
